Artist Statement

I am a self-taught artist. The media I have largely focused on have been watercolour, inks and oil paint. I have always felt drawn to using watery materials that enable me to express and explore themes of love, loss, intimacy and sexuality.

My work explores the relationship of love and intimacy between women, it centres the female form from a female gaze. At times there may be either one or at most two female figures in my work.

I explore the female body as a site for both trauma and healing. I am interested in the process of holding and allowing myself to be held. The process of merging and separation.

I have used the motif of an egg or a womb, I wanted my female figures to be safe, to be inside a membrane that although vulnerable and fragile, was for a moment in time, holding.
